  • Sproat Lake Volunteer Fire Department turns 50! If you are a past member and have not been contacted about the reunion, please contact Rob Gornall at robandwendy1@shaw.ca  PLEASE HELP THE SPROAT LAKE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT PROTECT YOUR PROPERTY! The upcoming fire season expects to be hot and dry.  It is vital we act now to protect ourselves from wildfires. Download the Fire Smart Manual which contains information to keeping our community safe at http://bcwildfire.ca/Prevention/docs/homeowner‐pdf or pick up a copy at the Harold Bishop Fire Hall, 7667 Pacific Rim Highway, any Tuesday between 7 and 9 pm. And while you are there, talk to our recruitment officer, Joe Lamoreux about joining this great group of volunteer professionals!  Help us find you by clearly posting your ADDRESS. The bright blue, highly reflective triangular signs save precious time in responding to requests for emergency assistance.  Order your sign from the SLVFD by calling 250‐724‐1777. The post and all hardware is included at one low price (the installation is simple but if you need assistance we can arrange that too).

 

  • Sproat Lake Community Association’s Spring Garage Sale is scheduled for June 7th. 2015 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Tables are $10 each or two for $15. For more info or to reserve tables call Penny at 250‐724‐5040.

 

  • Sproat Lake Parks Day BBQ is scheduled for July 4th, 2015 at Cougar Smith Community Park. Everyone is welcome!! Bring your bike and ball glove ‐fun for the whole family!

 

  • Sproat Lake Community Hall is looking for donations of recycled cupboards and kitchen appliances, for the hall kitchen. 2015 Spring Newsletter

–SLCA will be offering e coli and total coliforms at a discounted group rate of $36 per test ($60 value) on MONDAY, MAY 11th, 2015. Bottles and requisition forms are available for pick up at the ACRD office, 3008 Fifth Avenue, Monday to Friday between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm. Or for THIS TEST ONLY, they can also be picked up at the Tseshaht Market at 7585 Pacific Rim Highway and/or Sproat Lake Landing at 10695 Lakeshore Road, during business hours until Monday, May 11th.

Water test samples are to be taken MONDAY MORNING, in provided sample bottles, kept cold and delivered with requisition forms and payment of $36 cash or cheque (made payable to SLCA), to the Sproat Lake Community Hall on MONDAY May 11th between 9:00 am and 11:00 am to be transported to the NILabs in Courtenay. Early cooler drop off is available by calling Penny at 250‐724‐5040 or email coteart@shaw.ca for instructions.

This is a great opportunity to test water systems and filtration from lake sources or wells. If you do not have a filtration system on your drinking water, you are advised to boil your drinking water, as it is a raw water source. Water test bottles and requisition forms are available all year at the ACRD office during office hours Monday – Friday for individual testing and delivery to NILabs in Courtney or Nanaimo.
