–Sproat Lake Community Association is calling for VOLUNTEERS. They need help to help clean up targeted Crown land, shoreline and beaches along Stirling Arm, Two Rivers Arm, and Taylor Arm. Please remember to bring your rubber boots, work gloves, shovels or rakes, appropriate clothing, and shoes/boots. SLCA will provide garbage bags, maps, water, and lunch. Start time is at 9:00 am. at the Sproat Lake Provincial Park, for those coming from that area. We’ll meet up with the pile driver, on the lake, that will be heading down Two Rivers Arm to assist and transfer the garbage to trucks, for transport to the AV Landfill and Recycling Depot.

ZONING BYLAW OPEN HOUSE!!
The Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District (ACRD) is re-writing the Zoning (Land Use) Bylaw for the entire Regional District! As part of the process, they are hosting a series of Public Open Houses for residents and property owners within the ACRD. The Electoral Area ‘D’ – Sproat Lake Open House will be held on

Abandoned wharfs are an ongoing problem on Sproat Lake!
The Sproat Lake Community Association (SLCA) continues to get reports from residents regarding derelict wharfs, and debris from disintegrating abandoned docks. Debris of Styrofoam, plastic barrels and rotten wood was cleaned up by community volunteers.
If you are replacing or retiring a dock on your property at Sproat Lake, it is your responsibility to dispose of the old dock in an environmentally safe manner! Abandoning your property by setting it free, or tying it on vacant shoreline, or selling it to buyers with no private property on Sproat Lake is creating an environmental hazard. The consideration by residents for the proper disposal of old wharves is responsible and considerate of the environment.

A recent report, of an old abandoned wharf on the south shore of Taylor Arm near Bingo Bay says there are styrofoam billets breaking apart. Thank you, to the reporting neighbouring resident who cleaned up the large pieces of Styrofoam!
SLCA President, Stan Kujala and wife Carolyn spent 3 hours picking up 5 garbage bags, of the tiny small pieces of Styrofoam. The small remnants from the billets will be seen floating on the lake for years to come, as it is impossible to collect them all.
PLEASE do not let this continue to happen to our environmentally sensitive lake! It is all of our responsibility to be responsible lake stewards and keep this lake clean. If you see garbage or debris, please take a moment and clean it up.

The SLCA endorsed a motion, to promote environmentally safe products for dock construction, and refrain from using Styrofoam, which was passed unanimously.
